ANOTHER 3 POINTS PUT POPPIES SECOND! 16/10/2004 Following last Saturdays home victory, the Poppies were hoping to cement their position at the dizzy heights of third position.
A victory would see Kevin Wilson’s team climb a further position to second and looking good going into the winter period.
The home side had the best start possible on just three minutes when free-scoring Ollie Burgess curled a superb low strike to beat the keeper from the edge of the box.
Nationwide September Man of the Match Darren Lynch started very brightly causing the Barrow defence all sorts of problems.
Barrow's play in the opening 45 minutes came mainly through danger man Jamie Paterson and brought about two great pieces of individual defending by Poppies 'Mr Reliable' Martin Matthews. Once the defender cleared off the line after keeper was nutmeged and secondly throwing his body in the line of danger.
The second period was more evenly contested with the visitors having plenty of possession but being unable to produce the end result.
Both Solkhon and Lynch may have done better with headers in the Barrow six yard box, but there was no need for the Rocky Road faithful to panic.
Darren Lynch wrapped up the three points in the 84th minute when heading in a very inviting cross from the right.
So six points from the last six at home, now the standard has been set we will have to wait and hope for more of the same! come on kettering town fc
